How can I really be sure these are my pet’s ashes?
Choosing a reputable cremation service is your first step. By trusting your family veterinarian, who has put their faith in us, you are making an informed choice. We at the Hampton Roads Pet Cremation Services will treat both you and your pet with the respect and dignity you expect.
Can I watch and wait for my pet to be cremated?
Due to liability concerns and the extreme high temperatures involved, only certified cremation assistants are allowed to be in the crematory during the cremation process. The nature of this process makes it impossible for us to give you an exact time frame, and because pets are cremated in the order they are picked up, there may be another pet to process before yours.
Will the size and weight of my pet determine the amount of ashes remaining?
Having two animals of the same weight does not necessarily mean the amount of ash will be the same. An overweight animal will have less ash than a larger boned animal weighing the same amount. Also, feline bone structure is hollower and therefore lighter than canine bone structure. A lighter dog may have great bone mass and therefore produce more ash. In comparing two individuals of the same weight, the one with the greater bone mass will produce more ash as opposed to the one with more body mass.
